The Santa Maria City Council voted to rename the Chapel Street Plaza. After hearing the exploits of long-time city employee Teresa Machado, the council voted to change the Chapel Street Plaza name to Teresa Machado Plaza. Machado spent 39 years with the city. Throughout the years, she founded various youth programs including after-school programs within the city parks program. She was also instrumental in the city’s 1998 All-America City designation, and the 2017 Mayor’s Task Force on Youth Safety initiative.
