A plan to keep the Diablo Canyon Nuclear power plant operating beyond its scheduled shut-down has hit a snag. In October last year, PG&E asked the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to resume consideration of a 2009 application to extend the plant’s life. The NRC has rejected the idea. PG&E officials say they will produce a new application by the end of the year. Governor Gavin Newsom decided to keep the plant running to ward off power outages as California transitions to carbon-free energy.
