The jury in the case of a man accused of fatally shooting another man and his nephew heard closing arguments yesterday. Stephen Deflaun and Stephen Wells had argued over a campsite at Morro Strand State Beach in 2001. Prosecutors say moments after the confrontation Deflaun shot and killed Wells and then his nephew. His defense attorney called the shooting “imperfect self-defense” About three hours after receiving the case, the jury returned a verdict of guilty on two counts of murder in the first degree. Court resumes this morning.
