The man convicted of gunning down another man and his nephew 22 years ago was sentenced yesterday. Earlier this year, Stephen Deflaun was found guilty of killing 37-year-old Stephen Wells and his 11-year-old nephew Jerry Rios Jr. following an argument over a Morro Bay State Park campsite. In 2001, Deflaun was found to be incompetent to stand trial. A judge decided this year that Deflaun was sane at the time of the crime. He was sentenced yesterday to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
