Any parent can tell you, its expensive to raise children on the Central Coast. According to KSBY, a new report by SmartAsset, a consumer-oriented finance website ranks Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties in the top 20 most expensive places in the country to raise kids. Santa Barbara County Ranks 18th with an average annual cost per child is $24,710. San Luis Obispo County is 20th with an average annual cost per child coming out to approximately $24,000.
