The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office has announced the death of an inmate. Officials say 46-year-old Breet Douglas had been diagnosed with cancer before his arrest in March. Officials say they sought a compassionate release due to his terminal cancer diagnosis but were denied because of the seriousness of his criminal history and pending weapons charges. He received cancer treatments at Sierra Vista Medical Center before being transferred to a hospice facility in Clovis. He was technically still considered in the custody of the sheriff’s office and awaiting trial when he passed away.
