Groundbreaking for a new Japanese Community Center will begin next week. The long-planned facility received half a million dollars in federal funding from the Department of Housing and Urban Development. According to KEYT, the overall cost of the Santa Maria Japanese Community Center is over 16.5 million dollars. Congressman Salud Carbajal said the center will celebrate the contributions of the Japanese-Americans contributions to our country and here in Santa Maria and the Central Coast.
