The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office is getting reports of a new round of phone scams. This time, the caller spoofs a phone number the appears to be the Sheriff’s Office. The caller claims there is a problem with a federal agency and payment is needed to resolve the issue. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the scammer then uses a fake name and badge number to add a hint of credibility. Officials say this is not the way they do business, adding that if you receive a similar call notify your local law enforcement agency.
