Defense attorneys for a woman found guilty of murdering a man and helping dispose of his dismembered body want a new trial. 39-year-old Kimberly Machleit was found guilty last November of shooting Joseph Govey to death in 2018. Her sentencing hearing has been delayed until a Santa Barbara County Deputy D.A. can respond to the request for a new trial. According to the Tribune, if denied, Defense attorneys say they’ll ask the judge to reduce Machleit’s first-degree murder conviction to a lesser charge.
