It’s not unusual to see gray whales swimming along the Central Coast coastline, but The Marine Mammal Center has received several calls about a whale in the harbor of Morro Bay. According to KSBY, a couple of kayakers, wanting to see if they could spot the whale, got what they wanted. Los Osos resident Steve Harrell says the gray whale came within three feet of his boat and feels lucky to have been so close. Gray whales were once on the brink of extinction before a whaling moratorium was enacted.
