A man driving large military-type truck led law enforcement on a chase yesterday. It started when San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in a Los Osos parking lot. The driver seemed to be agitated, and fled when deputies arrived. 63-year-old Patrick Van Ess led the deputies to Montana de Oro State Beach. He drove onto Sandspit Beach, refusing to come out of the vehicle. Officers eventually introduced tear gas into the cab of the truck and Van Ess was taken into custody.
