A vegetation fire broke out yesterday morning near the Carrizo Plain National Monument. Cal Fire officials say the Chimineas Fire started at around 9:30. Fire crews responded with a coordinated attack from the ground and from air. By noon the flames had scorched 356 acres. A couple of hours later, the fire had more than tripled in size. According to the Cal Fire incident page, by the end of the day, the Chimineas Fire was 90 percent contained. 1200 acres were burned. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
