Five people were injured yesterday following an explosion at the Santa Maria courthouse. Authorities say 20-year-old Nathaniel McGuire was scheduled to make a court appearance on felony weapons charges, when he entered the courthouse wearing body armor under his jacket, and tossed a bag with explosives near the screening station near Department 9. Santa Barbara County Under Sheriff Craig Bonner confirmed that at least five people suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Adding, at this point in time we do believe this to be a local incident. McGuire is facing several charges, including attempted murder. The courthouse will remain closed, at least, until Monday. An FBI investigation is ongoing.
