Monarch Butterflies To Be Put On Threatened Species List

Monarch butterflies will soon be added to a list of threatened species in the US. On the Central Coast, the number of Monarch butterflies that winter here has dropped by a staggering 80 percent. Environmentalists believe monarch populations are shrinking because of warmer temperatures, agricultural expansion and herbicides that have hindered the growth of milkweed — the main food source for monarch caterpillars.
