Morro Bay Passes Battery-Energy Storage Ordinance

The Morro Bay City Council unanimously adopted an ordinance yesterday to temporarily stop grid-scale battery-energy storage systems within the city limits. The 5-0 vote follows the Moss Landing Fire in Monterey County. Vistra, the Texas based company that owns Moss Landing, plans to build a similar plant in Morro Bay despite the urgency ordinance. Company officials would have to seek approval through the AB 205 process, effectively bypassing Morro Bay’s approval.
