Atascadero Firefighters put their swift water rescue training to use yesterday afternoon. Five people had somehow become stranded on an island in the swollen Salinas River at around 4:30 p.m… Using swift water rescue equipment, they were able to wade over to the island and walk the five people, five dogs, and a cat back to safety.
