Letter To Newsom Encourages Keeping Diablo Open

A new letter sent to Governor Gavin Newsom is asking his administration to delay the closure of PG&E’s Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant. According to the Tribune, Dr. Steven Chu, former U.S. Secretary of Energy under the Obama administration and a Nobel laureate, and more than 75 scientists, academics and entrepreneurs urged Newsom to find a way to keep the plant open. It also details how the power plant would help the state reach its clean energy goals, claiming the closure would make it harder and more expensive for the state to reach its 2045 clean electricity deadline. PG&E officials have no plans to keep the plant open.
