Convicted Murderer Closer To Freedom

One of the men accused of stabbing an Arroyo Grande teen to death has been granted parole. In 1995, Royce Casey was one of three teens who lured 15-year-old Elyse Pahler to a secluded area of Arroyo Grande and stabbed her between 12 and 15 times. Casey was granted parole last year, but Governor Gavin Newsom reversed the decision. Earlier this month, Superior Court Judge Craig Van Rooyen granted Casey’s petition for writ of habeas corpus, bringing him a step closer to freedom. Elyse Pahler’s family says they will not oppose Casey’s release.
