A Central Coast blood supplier has declared a blood emergency. Vitalant provides blood to 22 hospitals and health facilities on the Central Coast. Officials say their blood reserves have continued to drop by almost 50 percent since the beginning of summer. Type O blood, the most frequently transfused blood type, is down to a one-day supply. Donors are needed to help bring the blood supply in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties up to a four-day supply. You can find out more at Vitalant dot org.
