San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara County Public Health Departments issued an advisory to the public to avoid contact with ocean water for the next three days. According to a press release, Significant rainstorms cause rain runoff into our oceans and waterways, bringing with it risks of skin, respiratory and intestinal problems, especially for vulnerable populations like children and the elderly. Rainstorm runoff can transport high levels of bacteria, viruses, and protozoa from urban areas to the ocean.
