Santa Maria residents may have noticed a musty smell or earthy taste to their tap water recently. City Officials say the water is safe to drink despite unusual taste and smell. According to KEYT, water officials say the taste and smell are biproducts of algae blooms and organic matter in surface waters impacting State Water Project customers. They add that their presence does not present a health risk to consumers.
