California has an official state mushroom and its found on the Central Coast. According to KSBY, Governor Gavin Newsom signed a bill naming the Golden Chanterelle California’s state mushroom. Local mushroom growers say the Golden Chanterelle only grows in the wild. It’s also commonly found near poison oak. So, anyone foraging for it should be very cautious.
