Green Waste Power Plant On The Central Coast

The first-of-its-kind green waste renewable power plant in the U.S. is here on the Central Coast. Kompogas San Luis Obispo operates an anaerobic digester facility on Santa Fe Road. It started operation in 2018. Since then, the plant has been turning yard waste and food scraps into renewable energy. According to the Tribune, the anaerobic digester converts roughly 36,000 tons of waste per year into electricity for 600 homes. A byproduct of the process is compost which is sold to farmers. Continuing the sustainable cycle.
