Utilities Commission Extends Shutdown Date To 2030

The California Public Utilities Commission has extended the shutdown date for the Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant. PG&E had scheduled to close the plant in 2025. The Utilities Commission voted yesterday to allow Diablo to continue operations through 2030. Opponents of the decision claim the projected cost to run the plant could top 6 billion dollars. Putting a strain on California ratepayers. Last year, Governor Gavin Newsom admitted that keeping Diablo running was necessary while the state transitions to renewable energy resources.
