A Surfrider Foundation report released last month calls a Central Coast beach one of the most polluted beaches in the country. Results from a 2023 report were released last month. The report claims that out of more than 500 weekly samples from this beach in 2023, 35% of them failed to meet state health standards for recreational waters. San Luis Obispo County’s Health agency also collects samples on a weekly basis. it issued only one advisory in 2023 for Avila Beach. According to the Surfrider study, Avila Beach ranked eighth in contamination.
