A road rage incident turned into a violent, hours-long standoff with police Saturday night. Santa Maria police were assisting CHP officers investigating a road rage incident. They located the suspect on East Orchard Street. During a traffic stop, he refused to comply with officers despite the use of a crisis negotiation team. The suspect remained non-responsive and combative. He eventually exited his vehicle, threatening officers with a blunt steel object before a K9 was deployed. 34-year-old Emilio Chaves is now facing several charges.
