Firefighters Getting Upper Hand With River Fire

Forward progress of a vegetation fire that broke out yesterday afternoon in the Salinas Riverbed in Paso Robles has been stopped. The River Fire was first reported just before 2 p.m… Officials say the flames made their way out of the riverbed, jumping South River Road, and forced the evacuations of more than 550 residents. At last report, 2 homes were destroyed, four more were badly damaged and nearly 100 homes remain threatened. The River Fire is currently about 60 percent contained. An investigation into the cause is underway.
