Santa Barbara County firefighters made quick work of a vegetation fire just east of Santa Maria last night. Officials say the fire broke out just before 6 p.m. near Mesa and Tepusquet Roads. The flames scorched about a quarter of an acre before crews knock them down. no structures were threatened and no injuries were reported. An investigation into the cause is underway.
