After several delays, the preliminary hearing for Paul Flores and his father Ruben got underway yesterday. Prosecutors called Kristin Smart’s mother Denise as their first witness. She described how Kristin was close to her siblings, and how the last time the family saw her was in the spring of 1996. Stan Smart, Kristin’s father, also testified that, at the time of Kristin’s disappearance, he felt Cal Poly Police were ill-equipped to handle the case. Testimony is scheduled to resume this morning at 9.
