Salamander Delays Santa Maria Airport Project

A development project at the Santa Maria Airport is being delayed by the California tiger salamander. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is holding up a permit due to the destruction of the tiger salamander’s breeding pond and habitat. Airport officials say the habitat was destroyed by an agricultural operation on land leased to another party. According to the Santa Maria Times, legal action could be avoided if the airport takes action that would benefit and conserve the California tiger salamander.
