A caller to the Santa Barbara County Northern Branch Jail in Santa Maria helped save the life of an inmate earlier this week. At around 8:25 Tuesday evening, a caller to the jail told staff that an inmate they just spoke with over the phone sounded unwell and may be overdosing. Jail staff foud the inmate, unresponsive in the jail’s dayroom. Deputies gave the inmate a dose of naloxone and requested an emergency medical response. Two more doses of naloxone were administered before EMTs arrived. The inmate is expected to fully recover.
