Sanity Phase Continues For Convicted Shooter

The Sanity Phase of the man convicted of killing a camper and his nephew in 2001 over a campsite at Morro Strand State Beach continued yesterday. According to the Tribune, A forensic psychologist for the prosecution testified that Stephen Deflaun knew what he was doing was wrong at the time of the shooting. Forensic psychiatrist David Fennell reviewed the case and evaluated Deflaun in the fall of 2001. At the time he believed Deflaun understood the wrongfulness of his actions. More than 20 years later his opinion is the same. Closing arguments begin Friday.
